The Power of Lymphatic Flow

Feeling sluggish, achy or just low energy? Your body is begging for movement, not just for your heart and your muscles, but for your lymphatic system, your unsung hero of vitality. This magical system of your body depends on motion to stay at optimum functioning. When you move, breathe, stretch, or shake, you help your lymphatic system circulate and renew from inside out. This is your body’s built-in detox and defense network that clears waste, filters toxins, and circulates immune cells to protect you from illness and disease. Unlike blood that has a heart to pump it around, your lymph is dependent upon movement to keep it flowing.
Your deep core muscles, including your diaphragm, pelvic floor and deep abdominals are the key players in the internal pump that drive healthy lymphatic flow. Each deep breath with core activation helps your body circulate lymph, reduce inflammation and restore homeostasis to your body. To truly shake up your health, incorporate variable rhythmic movement that lift your limbs above your heart. These dynamic motions help fluid drain back towards your center, refreshing circulation and supporting your immune system.
Simple ways to stimulate lymphatic flow:
- Breathe deeply: Slow diaphragmatic activates your core’s internal pump.
- Raise and reach: Stretch arms overhead and reach side to side, arm circles, and multi-directional movements.
- Elevate legs: Yoga poses like downward dog and legs up the wall encourage natural drainage and boost energy.
- Shake it up with dancing, hopping, skipping to help lymph move and energy rise.
One of my favorite moves to get your lymph flowing is the bug exercise.
